The Sporadic Islands

The Sporades islands are geographically located between the Greek mainland and the Greek islands of North-Eastern Aegean, almost in the center of the Aegean Sea. These four small islands have a special character each and an amazing nature. The most popular island of Sporades Greece for your holidays and much frequented by the youth is Skiathos, while Skopelos and Alonissos have a more family atmosphere but still gorgeous beaches. The least known but equally beautiful island of Sporades is Skyros, with a picturesque capital town, secluded beaches, and interesting sightseeing. This Sporades islands travel guide will give you all the necessary information to organize your holiday in Greece.

How to get there:

The busiest airport of Sporades is located in Skiathos. The airport of Skiathos receives domestic flights from Athens/Thessaloniki and charter flights from abroad in summer.

The main ports to the Sporades islands are the ports of Volos and Agios Constantinos, in central Greece. Ferries from these two ports go to the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos. Ferries to Skyros depart from Kymi, a small port town in Evia Island. In summer, there are also local ferries from Kymi to Skopelos and Alonissos.  (You can book a ferry ticket at the port of Volos, you can even bring your car on the boat)

  • Skiathos (Σκιάθος): Min. 2 days. Closest island to Volos, fun beach parties, more of a party island.  Skiathos has an airport so this is huge to keep in mind if you want to quickly get to another island.  Getting to Skiathos you can take a ferry from the port of Volos.
  • Skopelos (Σκόπελος): One of our favorites.  This is where Andro’s father is from, there are two main areas in Skopelos; Glossa and Skopelos town- you’d want to adventure around Skopelos town. Skopelos is the next closest island from Volos, the ferry’s first stop is Skiathos, followed by skopelos. It is dubbed “the green island” SO MANY TREES!  It is beautiful and lush, and has almost 300 churches.
